Radio Frequency Identification solutions (RFID)
Radio Frequency identification solutions (RFID) become more and more widespread in various areas of business and everyday life, and prospects for their application are constantly expanding. According to analysts forecast, RFID technology has a good chance to become one of the most popular mass technologies in the world.
Radio Frequency Identification is a method for automated objects recognition: radio signals are used to read and write the data stored in RFID tags – microprocessor units with radio interface designed for reception, storage and transfer of identification data.
Advantages of Radio Frequency Identification
- Overwrite functionality. Data in RFID tag memory can be overwritten and augmented multiple times.
- Direct line of sight is not required. RFID reader does not require direct line of sight with the tag in order to read its data. Tags can be read through package which enables their hidden placement. To read the tag it should be placed in registration zone just for a short while, and it can even be moved with a rather high speed depending on the system operating frequency.
- Reading distance. RFID tag can be read on a very long distance. Depending on tag and reader model reading range can be up to tens of meters.
- Large data storage volume. RFID tag can store much more information than, for example, a bar code – 192 bit to 8 Kbit.
- Reading of multiple tags supported. Industrial readers can simultaneously read multiple (up to a few hundred) RFID tags per second using an anti-collision function.
- Environmental effects immunity. Some RFID tags are more durable and resistant to severe operating environment (for example, waterproof or high temperature-protected). RF tag is a reliable tool for applications where the same object can be used unlimited times (for example, for identification of containers or returnable packages). Passive RFID tags have a very long lifespan.
- High level of security. Unique permanent identifier assigned to the chip (or microchip) during manufacturing process ensures a high level of forgery protection. Besides, information stored on the tag can be encrypted. You can also set up password-protection for RF tag data read and write operations as well as apply encryption during transfer of data. Both protected and unprotected data can be stored in a single tag.
